'Seeing off Trouble' is a video-based training package about preventing conflict and violence in and around off-licenses. The training package is primarily aimed at independent operators. Most of these off-licenses do not have direct access to the training and support facilities provided by some of the larger operators for their own staff. Running an off-license is not easy. Off-licenses have to handle many difficult situations, some of which can result in conflict, aggression and even violence.  No WorriesHow Licensees Keep the Peace
Hotels and Clubs have a long history of playing an intergral roll in Australian society, providing sustenance and social amenity. Community expectations and social behaviour are not static and liquor outlet operators need to be attuned to these shifts in order to service changing demands. Australia has been well served in this area with licensees demonstrating entrepreneurial skills and social awareness ot a high degree. 'No Worries' is based on the recognition that a small minority of people who seem unable to consume alcohol in a socially responsible way can sometimes make life difficult for themselves and disrupt those round them in public drinking situations. 'No Worries' particularly focuses on early detection of potentially violent situations and is designed to complement the Responsible Server training programmes being run in Australia's hotels, clubs, restaurants and other licensed premises by their industry associations. The Brewer's Society were worried about the increase in drug use and dealing in pubs. Their aim was to give publicans and staff the information they needed to prevent drug dealing and use, and to handle difficult situations involving users and dealers. MCM produced a 25-minute video, Drugs and Pubs, which included interviews with real-life drug dealers about the tricks they use to avoid detection; advice from publicans who had successfully 'cleaned up' drug-ridden pubs; and a detailed drug-squad demonstration. |
